Further to Paul's report of the exhibition in Milton News, I did question
the officers who were there fairly thoroughly about the extra clay needed
for the A14. The points that came out of the discussion were:
1 They want material for the widening to come from as near as possible to
where it is to be used. This should reduce traffic on local roads.
2 Deepening the existing hole is preferable to digging a new one next to it
because the latter would extend the potential life of the landfill site even
further (the explanation is slightly complex and I can give it in a bit more
detail to anyone who might like it)
3 They say that digging the hole deeper would extend the life of the site by
a maximum of two years.
