Somewhat related to this - when moving to Milton a couple of months ago
I took out a new home contents insurance policy. At the time of taking
it out the broker was unable to recognise the new postcode, so the old
postcode was used instead. Yesterday I got a letter addressed to the
new postcode thanking me for notifying of a change of address, but
asking me to urgently call them to provide the additional information
they needed to transfer my insurance cover.
It seems that the postcode change had hit their database, causing the
insured premises address to be updated. Some automated system -
assuming that they needed further information about the new insured
premises - sent out a letter requesting I make contact. Fortunately, as
soon as a human operator looked at the old and new addresses the problem
became apparent.
Of course it is slightly worrying that apparently my home contents
insurance was considered void for a time, though one can only hope that
common sense would have prevailed in the event of a claim being
required...
Regards,
Barry
