Hi all, as a parent of a child in year 5 at HIJS; I have been reading these
emails that have been going around our systems for the last 2 days with
interest, but I am both annoyed and utterly and amazed that some facts have
been left out, thus giving an inaccurate picture of the overall situation.
My understanding from friends and parents who have children in year 4 now;
is that this was outlined to parents toward the end of year 3 and their
opinions sought by the school along with the assurance that if they had any
concerns they could talk to the teachers / Head teacher at any time.
I also understand that the children are in 3 classes (each of 26 pupils) for
the core curriculum subjects (literacy, maths and science), and if I am not
mistaken; the 3 classes split into 2 in the afternoon for subjects such as
PE, art and music, the larger afternoon classes have extra TA support as is
necessary for the year group.
Articles / emails I have read seem to ignore the above points and detail,
however I do understand that by giving all of the facts does not necessarily
sell newspapers and may not be as sensationalist as giving a half fact! If I
were a real cynic, I would wonder whether this is such hot news due to the
fact that it is local election time!!
I would reiterate what Liz has so eloquently written, and advise that the
unhappy / concerned parents should go to the school first to discuss, as
from personal experience, I have always found the school to be supportive
and objective when my child’s education has been in question.
Regards
Brenda
